Caradoc is a former river god. He travels to earth every year on Samhain to find and seek revenge on his former lover Padraig who betrayed him, left him to die and become a specter. He has been banished to the Outerworld where shunned gods are sent and he has spent centuries searching for Padraig to take back his life force, his soul which gave him his power. Caradoc finally finds Padraig and recognizes his soul even though he is now living in another body.
Patrick (Padraig) had once been bound as a human servant to Caradoc. He had betrayed Caradoc to save his family from certain death by swearing allegiance to the Roman Christian god. He has no memory of his previous life and is living on earth thousands of years in the future as a heterosexual man.
Caradoc and Padraig meet again on the feast of Samhain, when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. Caradoc has only one night to walk the earth; in the morning he will become a spirit again. Despite wanting revenge on Padraig, Caradoc realizes that the attraction and love between them is just as great as before and he is not sure whether he wants to exile him to the Outerworld which was his original plan.
Padraig keeps getting flashbacks of his former life during scorching, steamy sex with Caradoc. When he recognizes his former lover he is remorseful and realizes that he has only one chance to make things right and obtain forgiveness for the harm he has done. He repeats the ancient words of service and Caradoc’s power is transferred to him. With his new found power he is able to find a way to show Caradoc that in his previous life, overcome by grief he paid the ultimate price for his betrayal and Caradoc forgives him. How they find a way to reunite forever makes for a very touching finale to Feast of the Flesh.
A.D. Christopher has a great deal of imagination and packs this delightful short story with a lot of content, making for a terrific read. Be warned – the sex in this book is hot, extremely steamy, frequent and explicit!
