Mikhail, a Watcher Angel, has been sent to earth to save Andrew Blackwell. After saying goodbye to his lover that morning Andrew goes into the shower. As he steps out he sees Mikhail sitting on his bed. Angrily he asks him to leave but Mikhail tells him that he is there to save him. Suddenly the apartment door is smashed open and Mikhail grabs him quickly; the next thing he knows he is in a place called Caeli, a realm between Heaven and Earth.

When Andrew asks for an explanation as to why he is in Caeli, Mikhail tells him that Endtimes are nearing and no living descendant of Christ has been found. He is the next best thing, being a descendant of one of Christ’s closest and most trusted disciples, John the Baptist. Lucifer has ordered his death because, with him alive, there will always be opposition to the powers of Hell and Caeli is the safest place for him to be.

Andrew is very attracted to Mikhail but is concerned about his soul; he knows Mikhail was a Grigori and that they had fallen for mating with humans. But when he and Mikhail hook up he forgets about everything – the sex is totally out of this world, unlike anything he has ever experienced before: Mikhail is what he has always wanted. Can Mikhail keep Andrew safe? You have to read the book to find out.

Apocalypse Rising: The Knight of Pentacles is a delightful short story and, in typical Mychael Black style, he demonstrates considerable imagination in characterizations and locations. I’m hoping that a couple of the supporting characters will get their own story soon. The book is as funny, smart and sexy, with great dialogue as one would expect out of Mychael’s creative brain and I love the ending! A must read for fans and new readers alike.
