Duncan has been Sir William’s squire for two years. During that time, he has lusted after and been in love with the beautiful muscular knight but all along he believes that William prefers the fairer sex. One evening he spies another squire having sex with one of the other men in camp and William catches him watching the couple. Since Duncan seems to enjoy the sight of two men having sex, William hopes that maybe Duncan is ready for some man on man action with him.
Sir William is called home due to his father’s serious illness and when they arrive he propositions Duncan who is very happy to share his master’s bed and heart. They fall in love with each other but on the death of William’s father a few weeks later the king orders him to marry a suitable heiress. Duncan is heartbroken and cannot bear to stay and watch William’s happiness with someone else so he runs away. Will William and Duncan find happiness together?
The Squire is a lovely story by author Shawn Lane and I found the characters to be quite delightful. Both William and Duncan were likeable and obviously cared a lot for each other. The sex was very passionate and sensual and the author packed a lot of action in this very short book. Disclaimer: Since I know nothing about the historical accuracy of the period and don’t pretend to, this rating is based solely on the other elements of the book, i.e. characterization, plot, conflict etc.
I would recommend The Squire to anyone looking for a great read whether or not historicals are your favourite genre.
In other words, this was very nice, but not mind-blowing. Else I think you’d have found more to say about it :). I already have this book as well but haven’t found the time to read it (I feel like a scratched disk every time I write this). It’s probably going to the AT list – AT for After Trip :-D.
Went to change money yesterday. I’m now loaded with Euros, Sterling Pounds and Swiss Franks (these are so cool). Although it looks now I should have bought some Moroccan dirhams as well… Anyway. I’ll keep you updated about that ;).
This was a nice little book. I enjoyed it. The reason I didn’t say a lot is that it’s very, very short (both in length and content). If you want a good little read in between flights this is the book for you. It doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a nice little historical romance!
I hope you got some travellers cheques as well as cash and that you didn’t change all your money into pounds, Swiss francs, Euros etc., At least if you lose those you can get your money back.

Hmm. This one actually looks cute. I’m so burned out on contemporary M/M right now that even the Dreaded Historicals are sounding good.

I was not casting aspersions your way. As I told Mary this is a cute little book about 50 pages on Ms. Reader which would make it about 40 I guess on Adobe. You can read it in an hour or so.

Thanks. It was short, I agree. Part of the requirements of the Amber Quill Heatwave Contest was it had to be a short story. I tend to write shorter lengths as it is (my bad), but I will be releasing longer length GLBT in the future.

About the money issue, I used to carry traveller’s cheques, but looking for a changer in every new country when I couldn’t check for the exchange rate was tiresome, so I got to bringing a minimum in cash, then withdrawing with my debit or credit card. The fees are about the same. I have a small, thin pouch I wear under my clothes, close to my skin, in which are all my essentials: passport, 90% of my cash, spare debit card, plane tickets and/or rail pass. That’s why losing my wallet in Thailand wasn’t that big a deal – I only had about 10$ in it. I was more upset about losing the pictures I had taken that day. They were really cool ones.
