Genre: contemporary romance GLBT (M/M)
Length: Short Story
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Adam Holderman is not your stereotypical twenty-something college boy. He shuns body piercings and prefers jazz to Goth and likes his men articulate and well groomed. Buzz Stiles, the new employee at Wild Waters Park where Adam works is the total opposite of what he most desires in a man. He wears eyeliner and black clothes and talks like a teenage skate punk so why can’t Adam get him out of his head? Because Adam has someone else in his head … a disembodied Scarlett-voice from GWTW that is the most annoying, exasperating, sexy, wonderful, gotta get me one of those, that keeps egging him on telling him things no one should know about another person, that’s why!
A month after their first meeting Adam surrenders to Scarlett’s blandishments and Buzz’s persistence and agrees to go on a date with him. The date is right out of This Can’t Be Happening. First they shop for suitable attire so that they would blend in with the club crowd and after Buzz finds his stuff at Daddy-Os you would think things could not get any kinkier because this place is a dream for a pervert. (I wonder how the author was so familiar with the merchandise – does she shop at Daddy-O’s?) But I digress. The customers were, shall we say, very forthcoming! When one overheard Adam commenting that he needed a moustache to go along with his new “Daddy” look he suggested, and I quote “you can use my pubes for a moustache” to which Buzz, resplendent in collar and leash, responds “nobody’s balls are going anywhere near my Daddy’s face”. It went downhill from there, yes I did say downhill. There’s one scene in the book where Adam got the shock of his life when he found out where Buzz got his name – all I’m allowed to say is that it involved an iPod Nano and a sex toy. Of course, as expected, the sex between Adam and Buzz is totally, totally fabulous.
As you can guess from this review, Catching a Buzz gave me quite the buzz. I have read this book several times and it perks me up every time, if you catch my drift. Ally Blue must have had a lot of fun writing this and I’m positive she has a warped mind. The characters of Buzz and Adam were terrific and so right for each other. Adam finds out there’s a lot more to Buzz than appears on the surface, Buzz might have found the man of his dreams, and the dialogue between them was incredibly smutty funny. If you need a book to give you a lift, the Scarlett-voice alone would do the trick. Oh there is one thing I didn’t like about the book – it was waaaay too short.

As usual your review is right on the money. Hot and funny, but as you said too short. I would have loved this book to be longer, both of the characters were so well written. I love Ally’s books, I’ve got pretty much all of them and love them. And yeah, Scarlett was a hoot *grins* Can’t wait for Mondays interview with Ally ;}
**hugs**
Thank you both! It was a fun story to write 😀
Hi Lily
I really wish that the story was much longer. Scarlett stole my heart. This book was too short to have much conflict but I thought it deserved the rating because of Ally’s ingenuity and the way she wrote Buzz and Adam.
Yes, I agree, the 5 stars were totally deserved on this one. The book was super fun to read (I couldn’t look at my Ipod without laughing for a while) and while it wasn’t as long enough as I would have liked it had lots of what I love to read, Hot guys, a bit of kink, and it was fun, smutty fun 😉
Ally does a lot of research. She talked in the interview about her sources, so having told you that now I know you’ll really read it thoroughly LOL I hope we don’t corrupt you. Seriously, her interview is dynamite!
I really meant it when I said in the review that whenever I’m really down I pull this book up on my computer and read it again. I’ll never look at an iPod the same way again 🙂
STOP with the awesome book reviews. My bank account can’t handle it.
*sigh* But I can’t resist the Ally Blue goodness. I’m sure I’ll have this one on my harddrive in the next week or so.
This book is very short but very sweet. Everyone I talk to about it speaks very highly about the story b/c Ms Ally has such a warped mind. Don’t expect a very complex story – this is pure fun and sex.
Bought it this morning. Reading it now.
I want an eyeliner boy of my own. Too bad hubby doesn’t go for that sort of thing.
He does let me play with kinky toys though. 🙂
Finished it. Very cute. 🙂
Hi Jen
Now do you understand why I was laughing hysterically while I was writing this review. This is total fluff and not one angst in sight! I hope you enjoyed it
Damn, I thought Ally was warped before I read this. Now I’m kind of worried about her. 😛
Blame the internets. That’s all I’m sayin’.
