Nathan Daniels was having a night out with clients in the strip club where Jamie Nolan works as a bartender and when they see each other there is an immediate spark of electricity between them which doesn’t make any sense because they’re poles apart in personality and looks. Nathan was the button-down “suit” while Jamie was the “wild
child” if you made assumptions based on his tattoo and piercings.
Jamie relaxes his rules of not dating the customers as soon as he laid eyes on Nathan and asks him out after his shift was over. Nathan could not believe that the hot bartender wanted him but apparently he did. When they made it to Nathan’s apartment after dinner Nathan was shocked that despite some incredible kisses on the way home and in the elevator Jamie did not come in but promised to get in touch soon. Jamie had already decided that he wanted something more than another one-night stand and he was looking for someone who wanted the same thing. Nathan wasn’t sure what to think – he knew he was falling for Jamie and thought that the feeling was mutual but he wondered if he was fooling himself. Two days later Jamie called and made arrangements to see him again; this time he stayed over and treated Nathan to the hottest sex he has ever had as he takes him to places he has never been before. Nathan knew then that he was in big trouble and he could only hope that Jamie was not far behind. However, just when things are heating up and our two heroes are burning up the sheets an old friend of Jamie’s turns up and seems to want to stir up some trouble. Will he scare Nathan off?
Exceptions to the Rule was an enjoyable book with enough content outside of the great sex to keep me entertained. Both characters were looking for love and when they found each other they knew that this might be the one. The authors did a good job on the characterizations and dialogue except for a couple of things that bothered me – Nathan called James “dearling” constantly and if I had a dollar for every time James called Nathan “honey” I would be a rich woman. Despite this flaw I would recommend this book to readers who like a hot romance.
