The first time Micah sees the firm’s new employee Jonas Chadwick he is drawn to him and wants to get to know him a whole lot better. Jonas is 14 years older and at 48 has been through a lot of life’s ups and downs. He is not sure that he wants to get close to Micah even though he knows he’s gay.
Micah at 34 is not interested in another short-term relationship and Jonas seems ideal to him but Jonas is keeping his feelings very close to his vest and is resisting all of Micah’s overtures. It takes all of his skills of persuasion to get him into his bed and he recognizes that Jonas might be just the man for him.
Passion’s Victory is a very interesting story on a number of levels. The two main characters are older and one of them has been bruised and battered by life which is a change from the usual 24 year old heroes. The author does a very good job on the back story of each protagonist, particularly Jonas, who we learn has suffered two personal tragedies and he’s afraid that he might have too much baggage for a new lover, while Micah on the other hand has had a pretty good life but is really looking for love after suffering a few failed relationships. The sex is wonderful and at times moving and Micah shows a lot of tenderness towards Jonas’ vulnerabilities.
This is a very appealing couple and I so wanted them to make it. The only other comment I would make is that this is the second book I have reviewed by this author and in both cases the protagonists are older than the norm, which provides a different perspective on romance in the fast lane. The dialogue was great even though Jonas was not your typical hero, and Micah adds icing on the cake.
I have no hesitation recommending Passion’s Victory to fans of K.C. Kendricks and other readers unfamiliar with K.C’s writing.
