  • Well, you’ve chosen something with a suitable title. 🙂 NO MORE SNOW! Please. (I’ll beg if it will help.) Sounds like a fun book and I’m all about suspending disbelief on a fairly regular basis. Makes life more interesting.

    I really liked Snowed In and one of my all time favourites is the book you and Rhianne wrote sometime ago, Caught Running, which I have read countless times and have been meaning to review. Another book which is a free read that I really loved is The One That Got Away. I’m waiting patiently for it to be updated and released for sale.

  • Oooooooh! Snowed-in characters? Straights guys getting over their hang-ups to get touchy-feely with each other??? I’m SO there!!!!! 😀 I’m in the right mood, too, having a snowed-in house waiting for me *rolls eyes* Now where can I write this book title down…damn, those wish list pages are so full I’m going to have to start buying books again just so I can erase titles to make room for new ones :-DDD

    And…*coughs, looks around and lowers voice* Actually, Caught Running was co-authored with Abigail Roux. 😀 It’s one of my favorites too.

    OK ‘baitch’ – so I got one name wrong! *g* Madeleine should not write with so many other authors – how am I expected to keep the names right smartypants:) What you need to know is that I was thinking of you as I was reading the book and I thought – damn, Mary will go into the tub with these guys. It was really well done. You’ll love Warren.

    Thanks for dropping by. As you can guess, we have a lot of fun on the blog talking about our favourite books (and buying lots of them) and smacking a few authors around (never you). *g* You could co-write with anyone (or write alone) and produce excellent books for the fans.

    My review of Snowed In caused quite a few people on the romance group I belong to, and others who come by the blog, to buy it because of the “hotness” factor :DDD

    I must find the time to review Caught Running It’s on my “to do” list for this month. Watch for it! I just posted a review of your Christmas story Dark Chocolate this morning – I have my head in the freezer to cool off from that one. 🙂

    The One That Got Away is still one of my favourite Urban/Aile stories; I read on Rhianne’s blog I think it must have been a year ago that you were updating it to have it published, so I have been waiting a long time. This was actually one of the first story I had read by either of you and the reason I bought some of your other books.

    This is a really long comment but I must finish it. No, I haven’t read either Cut and Run OR another one which I hope to get soon Love Ahead but I’ll put them on my list the next time I buy books from Dreamspinner – it’s becoming one of my favourite publishers.

    The One That Got Away wasn't the first thing Rhianne and I wrote together, but it is also one of my favorites because of its feel-good factor. I've been told "it's not realistic" and "how can there be no conflict in the story?" Well, my answer is "It's a romance! Just enjoy it!" <3

    I try to be fair and unbiased with my recs. because my readers deserve it. It’s only one person’s opinion but I try to get to the heart of the stories.

    I wish you and Rhianne would convince Dreamspinner (or another publisher) to release The One That Got Away. I know the story is not realistic. I did a poll on the blog a few months ago (you do know I run polls from time to time on the blog *g*) and the readers (including the gay men and authors who responded to the poll) were divided on “gay for you” stories. If you’re interested in this poll here are the links. I really hope you guys update the story and release it!

  • Very interesting results! What I’m coming to understand (with difficulty) is that there will be lots of people who like your book, and lots who don’t. But those who don’t might like a different one of your books. Different people like different things. I just have to keep that in mind!

  • So far I have loved all of your books and I will be reading others, both with Rhianne and Abigail. I may not like them all but I will indicate why, either way.

    With regard to likes or dislikes of books or themes, it’s never personal and every reader wants something different as you can see from that poll, and what was interesting is that authors weighed in as well. I try to make it clear when I write a review why I did or didn’t like a book, what my expectations were of the story and that my opinion may not be shared by a majority of readers. A lot of the regulars on this blog express their opinions and the authors who check out the reviews get an idea of what works or doesn’t.

  • **raising hand and waving it frantically** I've read CUT & RUN!! And I luuuuurved it. Wave, I think you'd enjoy it too. You like suspense/cop stories and there is something irresistibly compelling about that story. It's over 300 pages (of course, I got it in print) and I've read it three times already.

    And Madeleine needs to know that not everyone is against "gay for you" stories. Some people LOOOOOVE them *wide grin*

    And oooh, what is that One that Got Away story???? Must track this down.

    Did you say 300 fricking pages? Do you know how many books I have yet to read in my TBR pile b/c they are over 250 pages? OK fine I’ll get it.

    And Cut & Run is actually 380 pages according to Amazon, but don't think about it. *g* If I can read it in 6 hours, you can read it in four. It sucked me right in and I didn't see the time fly.

    *realizes she hasn't heard a sound from Wave after saying "380" and turns to find Wave passed out on the floor* Wave? *shaking* Wave?? C'm'on, it's not THAT bad :-p

    I still don’t believe this! 380 pages. How many pages do we need for you to kill a few guys, have great sex, kill some more, have more great sex …. OK I see where this is going. I guess you do need 380 pages Madeleine.

    I think I’m going to start with Love Ahead – that’s got to be shorter. (How many pages is that one?)

    So Love Ahead is 306 pages (2 stories) and Cut and Run is 380 pages (1 story) Looks like I have my work cut out for me. I’ll probably hate them both *g*

  • Heheheheh. Well, you've got two SERIOUSLY different styles of work there. So don't be surprised. I had a reader contact me, unhappy after reading Cut & Run, because she expected it to be a romance like Caught Running.

    Yeah. I boggled.

  • I second the 'very different styles' thing 🙂 I think the only common point between Cut and Run and Caught Running (aside from the strangely similar titles :D) is the long buildup before the men get together (I love that :-D). C & R was much grittier and darker than Caught Running, with quite a lot of angst. I can understand that some people are less interested in that kind of stories and like more fluff and romance. But for readers who enjoy both, the two novels are equally enjoyable in their own way :).

    Wave, I finished Bareback last night (fabulous!) and realized the print version is about the same lenght as Cut & Run. If you could read Bareback, you can read Cut & Run :).

    I'll have to download The One That Got Away once I get home – I tried to do from work, but the computer that has Word is the one in the newsroom, and the page's heading is a little too sexy for me to feel comfortable opening it in such a public place :-DDD

    I haven't read Love Ahead yet. It's on my wish list. *sigh and thinks of resolution*

    I sometimes wonder if readers read the blurbs before they buy a book. I always do – although there is one author whose books I don’t buy anymore b/c she writes brilliant blurbs but the books are 3.5 stars at best.

    I love dark stories, murder mysteries, suspense, edgy, as well as warm and fluffy (sometimes – have to be in the mode for these), paranormals and just about everything else except I still have to get into heavy duty horror.

    For as good a writer as you I have no hesitation trying something new – yes, even a 380 page book. *g*

    I’m very glad that you liked Bareback – one of the best M/M books I have read b/c of the emotion (even though I’m not one for a lot of angst). You did convince me about Cut and Run and I will be getting it along with Love Ahead probably on the weekend when next I visit the Dreamspinner site.

  • I’m still hoping tonight will be soon enough. I just can’t open that link with the sports journalists (all macho males) looking over my shoulder :-DDDDD

    And I know *exactly* who is the author who writes brilliant blurbs and never meets expectations with the stories themselves. A pity, given how good the plotlines sound. I don’t buy from her anymore either, although I believe Jen let herself be swayed once again. *shaking head* Those blurbs ARE bloody brilliant. 🙂
