Tam gave me the most wonderful idea when she sent me a gerbil shifter (or maybe it was a hamster shifter) story that she had written. It was so good I thought, why don’t we have a fun writing competition this summer? Instead of going to the beach, lying out in the sun while someone oiled your body as you read a book, you could take your computer with you to the beach and write a fun story instead.
I haven’t worked out the details of course but the stories could be limited to 2500 words and I could award a prize (a very small prize) 🙂 to the winner. The would-be writers could send me their entries and only I would know who they are when I send them to the judges “blind”, just in case the judges could be bribed. 🙂 We would need a bunch of people to be judges but that could come later.
The competition would be open to anyone except real writers, and the only stipulation would be that the story must be M/M. Of course there should be some hot sex in your stories but they can’t be all sex – there has to be a PLOT. The winning entry would be published on the website for all to admire your talent. 🙂 I think this would be great.

Glad you liked Marcin my HAMSTER. Sheesh, gerbils are completely different. I find it easier to write if I’m given parameters (like hamster shifter or hot guy who knits) but I can go with the flow.
Tam, maybe Wave or some other person can select a picture or choose a theme to give us/them an idea were to start.
Excellent idea Ingrid. Probably easier to judge as well if they are not all completely diverse. My problem is 2500 words. LOL 25,000 we’re talking. Rambling is my middle name.

What’s wrong with 2,500 words? How long was the gerbil story? If the contest is 25000 words that would be too much work for the judges and would be longer for a lot of books on Amber Allure – did you think of that? This will be a way for YOU to show some discipline by forcing yourself to stick to 2,500 words.:) I’m not wedded to the word count but it should be close.
I have no idea how long that was. I just started writing until I came to the end. 2500 is about average for a Sip which is fine, I just tend to have difficulty with conciseness, but as you said, it’s a good exercise in discipline.
Okay, I checked, that was 6400 words, about 16 pages. I suppose 2500 would be about 7-8 pages. Much easier for the judges who have to read a whole bunch.

I was just thinking, which is always a dangerous thing, that if this is successful maybe in the Fall we can have a real writing competition, in partnership with a publisher, and the winning entry will get a contract from the publisher. How about them apples?

You never know. It could be even more real than you think. I always believe in aiming high – the “impossible” goal for some people is “just around the corner” for others. You just have to develop the right strategies and timing. 🙂
