The last time I presented the quarterly statistics on the site there was a lot of enthusiasm – on my part and Christian’s anyway, and I think Val had a meltdown 🙂 – about the performance of the site, due 100% to you, the readers. I didn’t expect that we would do as well going forward because those were great statistics. Well I’m pleased to tell you that we have done so much better I’m sending each of you bottles of virtual champagne and cases of Canadian beer. 🙂
Our last report indicated that up to the end of February this year, the site had generated 14.5 million hits and almost 300,000 of you had visited in just under 7 1/2 months. The total hits for the 3 months (December, January and February) were an astonishing 8.1 million. The new numbers are more in the realm of the stratosphere for such a small site. For the four months ended June 30 (March, April, May and June) we had 14,921,145* hits, for a total of 29,373,096 hits in less than a year. There were over half a million actual visitors ( 528,287) to the site, with the largest percentage coming from the United States of America at 69.1%. Happy 4th of July. 🙂 Christian grouped the visitors by country on the chart and Canada was the next highest at 4.6%, way down from the US of course, but our population is 1/10th that of our closest neighbour. The rest of the stats by home country % is on a separate chart.
*revised. (I can’t add for nuts so I underestimated the number by over 3M 🙂 )
Once again I would like to thank the guest reviewers, without whom this would not be possible: Aunt Lynn, Jenre, Kassa, Val, Kris, Erastes, Lily, Leslie, John, and Alexi. Ha, ha! I’m a total nerd about blog traffic statistics, no question. 🙂 And this newest report — OMG! That’s something like a two thousand percent increase in less than a year? That’s absolutely amazing! I also love the fact that we have increasing visitors from such faraway places around the globe. Big congrats to you, Wave, and I’m so pleased to be involved with this site!

I knew this was an awesome sight! SO glad I found you….and it looks like numbers are only going up! It’s proof that what you (all) do is totally worth it, and I cant imagine the work that goes into it…however, I am happy to reap the rewards and can only say a GIANT THANK YOU! Can I be a geek and ask what happened in February? Did the blog page move then? (The fascination for me in the data is telling the story behind it!).
14,000 unique visitors is really impressive. It’s certainly the site I make sure I visit each day, so I expect that’s true of a lot of others. These numbers give an indication of how much influence your reviews must have – people are always commenting about adding books to their TBR list on the basis of the recommendations. It would be nice to think that this weight of opinion behind the surveys and other opinions, such as those in your post about the need for interesting and innovative plot lines etc, would be recognised and acted upon by authors and publishers. 14K people can’t be wrong! (just think of all the potential additional sales with the right story).
I often think how impressive the variety and depth you have on the site is – Keep up the good work, and Thank you.

Excellent question. This was explained in the previous report but here is the explanation

January was an incredible month, generating our highest numbers so far at 3.1M hits and 51,000 visits, and the other reason is February is a short month, so 3 days were lost. The total hits for the 3 months (December, January and February) are an astonishing 8.1 million. Here’s the explanation of “unique visitor”

Instead of “Unique Visitors” we could also speak of something like “Unique Computers”. It’s a count of how many different people access a Web site. For example, if a user leaves and comes back to the site five times during the measurement period, that person is counted as one unique visitor.
Unique visitors are determined by the number of unique IP addresses on incoming requests that a site receives or with the help of cookies.
The number of visitors is always higher than the number of unique visitors because:
– User Reject Cookies
– User Delete Cookies
– User login from different computers (Home, Work, Hotels etc.)
– User want to surf the web anonymously and cover their real IP address
…
