Guest Reviewer Changes

As you know, the M/M sub genre is expanding at a pace that no review site can even dream of matching. In view of this unprecedented growth the number of guest reviewers on this site is increasing by two to help you make informed choices on as many M/M books (new and vintage) as we are able to review. I try to find guest reviewers whose tastes are varied so there’s a good chance that your favourite themes/books will be reviewed here. That’s a pretty long intro to the main course. 🙂

Here ‘s a bit of information about the new guest reviewers. If you visit the site regularly you know them both because neither is the silent type. 🙂

First up is Budajsguy (you can call him Buda) LOL. He grew up on a farm on the not-so-flat plains of Kansas and is a lapsed Russian History major. He says that shoulders (???) 🙂 are among the first things he notices about a guy, but usually only if he’s taller than his 6’2″ height.

His favorite movie of all time is The Philadelphia Story, “because Katharine Hepburn is a goddess beyond compare.” His collection of ebooks reflects a latent cop/law enforcement fetish, as well as a not-so-latent cowboy one. He also loves mysteries and contemporaries and psychic paranormals but is not a huge fan of fantasies, although he read and loved Clive Barker’s Imajica. Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon series still amazes him (though his niece swiped them a few years ago and he hasn’t seen them since). He’s a sports fan and his favorite sport is ice hockey. His teams are both losers (my definition)  – the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. (If you’re a hockey fan you will probably wonder if he set out to choose teams that may never win a Stanley Cup). 🙁 He also loves to watch rugby–I wonder if it’s the game or the guys in those skimpy uniforms that get his adrenalin pumping.

TJ lives in New York – the state not the city, and is far enough from the Big Apple for a little slower pace. He enjoys a wide range of music and has actually run out of room on his ipod. Occasionally he paints in his spare time (pictures, not houses), dabbles in cooking and spends a lot of time reading. He enjoys books that have interesting and complex characters, or conversely funny and snarky characters since he loves to laugh. Although he has many favorite authors, Josh Lanyon, Ethan Day and the latest addition Harper Fox top his list. TJ’s favourite theme in M/M is cheating partners because he would like to know their strategies for not getting caught. 🙂

I’m really pleased to have persuaded both TJ and Buda to become part of this crazy group and I know you will join me in welcoming them. You can give them a tough time after their first couple of reviews. 🙂

You may have noticed that Alexi is not around and hasn’t been lately. She will be away for at least 6 months because of family and other pressures. TJ and Buda will not be replacing Alexi, who will be returning; their primary responsibility will be to give you great service by writing excellent book reviews.

I think our roster of guest reviewers is unequalled  in the business and I’m very proud that we can offer the high quality of reviews that we do, and by the number of visits to the site I think you appreciate our hard work. It would be remiss of me if I didn’t express my own appreciation to the other guest reviewers who do such an outstanding job every day. This is a tough gig, make no mistake about that. It may not be paid employment but sometimes it sure feels like it. Of course working behind the scenes and making everything happen without hiccups is Christian, our Webmaster, to whom I owe a great debt that I can never repay. Also, without Tam and her fun posts Saturdays would not be rockin’. 🙂

Virtual champagne all around and a case of 24 for Buda. 🙂

    • Unfortunately I can’t go to the parade this year. 🙁 I have to be on the highway driving my kidlet to camp this year. Sigh.

    Lynn – There are perks?! Wave just told me the newbie’s had to read all the 2 star books and to be glad it’s not the 1 stars. I think I need to renegotiate.

    I too love The Philadelphia Story, Buda! But of course, who doesn’t? People with crappy taste, I suppose. : ) Though I must admit, that with regard to my favorite, Bringing Up Baby might win out…but only by a leopard hair.

    And TJ…I thought getting caught was half the fun? Or am I thinking of a different game altogether?

    Seriously, thanks Ethan & Sean. I’ve greatly enjoyed more than one book from each of you, so you’ve just made my day. I just hope we live up to the hype. 😉

    Don’t shoot, but I’ve not seen all of Bringing Up Baby. Perhaps I should try to find it on Netflix streaming content tomorrow.

      Just remember you said that when I tell you that the travel budget is busted. 🙂

      You will probably have to fight Lynn and Jen to get to review any books by Ethan or Sean. Lynn has agreed that I can review the sequel to Sno Ho and that’s only because I was sneaky and reviewed the first book before she even knew it was out. LOL. Jen seems to have first dibs on Sean’s books (she thinks). 🙂

  • Shoot, Wave, I have 4 older sisters–I know when to pick my battles. But, as the youngest, I’m also used to getting what I want. It’s all in the way one approaches things. lol

    And you call yourself a Hepburn fan? Next you’ll be saying that you’ve never seen “Desk Set”! I think that may be one of my favorites. Lots of snappy dialog. I love the scene on the rooftop – “Pickles and Olives?” You simply have got to see the rest of “Bringing Up Baby”.

    BTW John, the travel budget was busted when I gave it to you to take a bus load of seniors on a trip, if you recall. 🙂
