Fun Writing Competition – We have a WINNER

After a couple of months the two finalists in this competition were announced with the usual fanfare. Studs and Roses emerged as the winner. Congratulations to the winner JoiseyMadison@gmail.com.

In addition to a very modest gift certificate at a publisher of  her choice I was able to secure a much bigger and better prize that I’m sure she will appreciate.

M.L. Rhodes, a well known and well respected author who has written wonderful paranormal and contemporary stories, has agreed to offer feedback to Joisey on her story. This is a very valuable prize especially  if she wishes to continue as a writer, because this kind of advice comes along once in a very long while. Perhaps with a bit of tinkering this story may be worth consideration by a publisher.

Thanks to everyone who voted and a special “thank you” to the judges Kris, Petra and Ingrid who worked so hard on reading and evaluating the submissions. Maybe we’ll do this again next year.

The winning story is attached.

  • Thank you to the judges for choosing my story as a finalist and many many thanks to everyone who voted for me. I am surprised, excited and NAUSEOUS LOL. ML Rhodes is one of my favorite, most respected authors (most are on my keeper shelf) so the nerves are in rare form…TY very much Wave for arranging this.

Thanks again everybody for giving me some much needed confidence!

    • You’re welcome Joisey and congratulations again. You’ve got mail. 🙂

M.L. is one of my favourite authors as well so when I started this competition I thought of her as being an author who could give the winner constructive advice on her story.

I hope some day to read one of your books in print.

  • Hey, congratulations, Joisey! I liked your story a lot and I think you deserve the praise and the price. Looking forward to reading your first novel! ;-))

  • Thanks everybody. I have since started lengthening it-several people pointed out things that didn’t work (including the chopped off “dialect endings”-lengthened those) and I took it in the constructive vein the commentary was offered. I think all the input only helped tremendously so thank you again. It really helped to get other eyes on my work and just gain some exposure. So excited to chat with Ml Rhodes! Eek!

  • As one of the judging panel, I want to take the opportunity to say a big congratulations to Joisey and to all the other entrants in the competition.

The variety of the stories show what a talented bunch of writers are out there and I encourage all of you to continue with your craft. 🙂

    • Kris
Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the time and effort you, Ingrid and Petra invested in the competition and you guys did well with your final choices. Both finalists did well and I’m so pleased with the caliber of entries.

Now maybe Joisey will give serious consideration to a writing career. 🙂
