I’m pleased to announce that we have another guest reviewer and, judging from his first review which you’ll see today, he’s what I call a great “find” who will be a wonderful addition to our current ensemble. Cole is one of the youngest members of our group (he’s just a few years older than Nathan who writes the movie reviews) and because of his background he’ll bring a different perspective to his reviews. He’s been commenting a lot since he first started logging on to the site and he now knows that he should have kept his mouth shut …… because look where mouthing off landed him. 🙂 I won’t hold the fact that he loves cats against him, (I’m a dog person) as long as he keeps those felines in their place. lol

Here’s a short bio of Cole:

I’m a 26 year old man who has 4 cats. Some might call me a cat lady except for no one has ever called me a “lady”, no matter how many times telemarketers have called me ma’am. I like redemption stories most of all, especially when the character has a sense of humor. And I run an at- home baking business specializing in cakes. Oh, and my favorite is red velvet with cinnamon buttercream.  My favorite authors change a lot, but the few that stay the same are Josh Lanyon, Chris Owen, Ethan Day, and ZA Maxfield.  Outside of m/m, hand me Tolstoy and I’m happy.

  • Welcome Cole. Actually Nathan’s still the baby. 🙂 He’s only 21 still I think. I don’t think I missed his birthday. I hope.

    Glad to have a cat boy on board Cole. We’ll be expecting cake at all staff parties. 🙂

    • Thanks Tam! I’m the baby of my family and I never get to live that role down, although do you tend to get away with more 🙂

      I could make a cat cake. Actually, thats kind of disturbing, isn’t it? But then again, the ears were always my favorite part of chocolate bunnies…

      Yesterday I made a meyer lemon curd. Mmhmmm, tangy and sweet. Lemon is one of my favorites too, it always reminds me of my grandma’s house when I was little.

    I’m a cat lady at heart, despite not having taken on another one since my last one died (he got to twenty and it broke my heart to have him put to sleep). Always seem to get on with cat people, despite, or probably because of the fact that they’re mostly nuts 😀

      I know exactly what you mean. 20 is a very long and wonderful life for a kitty. It always makes me happy to hear about a cat having a good owner, I seem to take on another cat a month and outsource them to my relatives 🙂 There are just so many strays and I can’t stand seeing them go hungry.

      Of course we’re crazy, thats what makes us so cool 🙂

      You’re on those lists because you deserve to be, everyone here knows that. I hope somewhere out there you aren’t on any shameful misdeeds lists. Well, maybe I shouldn’t go there… 🙂

  • Christ on a bike, Nathan’s barely older than my daughter (she’s 20; 21 is coming up in 2 months).

    Ugh. Feeling ancient now. Think I’ll go buy some Geritol and Aspercreme. And you little children probably don’t even know what I’m talking about! Sigh…

    Yeah. Anyway, Cole, welcome 🙂 Yay for cat people! Although I have to wonder, where are all the tarantula people??? No love for arachnids? What’s up with that, y’all?

      Can you imagine baking for a living? I would be 500 pounds, especially if I ate those red velvet cinnamon buttercream things. I want them as far away from me as possible – no offence to Cole. lol

      • Heh. I’d probably just get sick of looking at them *g* I love some good cake (red velvet, Cole? mmmmm, yummy!) but I don’t actually have much of a sweet tooth most of the time. My downfall is fries O_O

      • None taken 🙂 I finally figured out how to force my scraps on friends for favors, like the favor of not gaining another ten pounds. This is the time of year…

      I’d like to see that, Christ on a bike. I imagine it would be like the end of Grease, when Sandy and Danny go riding off into the sky.

      I’ll have you know, Ally, that I have both taken Geritol and applied Aspercreme in my time. Though my doctor had to inform me that Geritol was indeed not the right multivitamin for me and that I was taking way too much iron. THAT was pretty embarrassing.

      If you spring a tarantula on me Ally I swear to disavow your books from my collection no matter how much I love Sam and Bo. 🙂 Just, back away slowly, alright?

    As Wave said, I bake (and cook) as well, though not professionally. I’d love to do it pro at some point, but I’d have to do it outside the house; I have three very hairy pets (two Maine coon cats and a Bernese Mountain Dog) and I don’t have a closed-off kitchen. Barricading the kitchen with chairs and boxes only works for so long. 🙂 No health department in its right mind would sign off on my situation.

      Thanks for the welcome, I was really honored to be asked to join you guys who write really wonderful reviews. Yeah it was hell trying to get the kitchen stuff sorted but I baked all the time anyway so it was worth it to get some money for it. It started out just being asked to cater a wedding and after realizing just how much structure that takes I had to tone it down a bit to just small cakes and pastries for parties and such. But it keeps me in books!

      My sister has a Maine Coon! Biggest cat in the world.

      We should share recipes sometime 🙂

  • Welcome aboard, Cole! I’ll leave the cats & cakes to the others; I’m just glad you’re not a Dostoevsky guy. Notes from the Underground made me want to dig him up and revive him, just to kill him again–slowly. Tolstoy is much better!

      The only Dostoevsky I liked was The Brothers K. But for the most part reading Dostoevsky feels like walking around in Salvadore Dali’s head, where everything is unhinged.

      Now you want his cake? Any cakes have to go through me. lol. Would you believe I have never had red velvet cake? Is this an American delicacy that never made its way across the border? Why is it we don’t get the good stuff? 🙂

        The reason red velvet is my favorite is that chocolate is always the star in a dessert, but only red velvet brow beats it into subtlety.

        And hey, I’ve been to Montreal, you’ve got poutine.

          Just reading what red velvet cake is made of and I’ve gained at least 5 pounds. Get away from me you devils. And I’m not a slave driver – don’t listen to Buda and TJ. 🙂

        Aww sweetie, you must get out more! The bakery next door to my EDJ makes a red velvet with cheesecake icing. Now that is a little slice of heaven. Red velvet is basically a mild chocolate cake, with red food coloring to make it red. It usually has some kind of cream cheese or white icing.

      • Cole – I am NOT touching that one. Honestly I’ve found our little Wave to be a really cool chick who pushes us all to try new things and step a bit out of our comfort zone. Lord knows she had to drag me kicking and screaming out of the shadows! Had she known what she was getting…. 😉 Just trust that she always knows best and you’ll be fine.

          Its true, I’m a big softie for Wave. Can you believe I used to think she didn’t like me? I can’t remember why I ever thought that, it doesn’t really make sense now. I think I just felt like I was butting into a cool kids party when I first started leaving comments 🙂 But, she’s been very good to me, helping me along until my little knobby knees stopped wobbling and I found my way.

          • Serious?! Well, it’s okay once in a while, but don’t make a habit of it. Although we are serious about our books, we do love to laugh. 😉 I have had many fun times here and hope you do as well. I think many people are a little intimidated at “butting in” on the conversations that go on here. But once you start, it’s hard to not comment when you read the great reviews and posts.

    Just remember to tell Cole what fun we have here. I learned what goes into red velvet cake (horrors) and I found out that Cole knows what a poutine is. lol

      Oh that won’t be an issue Wave. Now that you have all the young ‘uns, I can finally retire. I want a red velvet cake for my party!

      And you seriously can not examine the ingredients of a dessert and still expect to enjoy it. Do you x-ray your boyfriends before you sleep with them? That would seriously ruin the mood for me. 😉
