This is a “submission” call for judges for our 2011 Fun Writing Competition. We’re looking for judges for either contemporary or paranormal/historical/science fiction stories. There are no perks in this assignment such as kissing the judges, in case you were wondering. 🙂

Last year the Fun Writing Competition was a success even though it took some would-be writers a while to get going. You all had a great time critiquing the final two entries and selecting the winner. But before we got there the judges had to do the job of reading and ranking all of the stories that were submitted, to come up with two finalists. This year the job of judging the entries will be just as arduous and if you volunteer you can’t back out half way through. 🙂  Before I invite all of you who are dying to enter the competition, we have to have the judges on board. Without the judges there will be no competition, that’s how important they are.

If you would like to be a judge for this year’s competition please leave your information in a comment on this post. You must indicate if you wish to be a judge in either the contemporary or historical/paranormal/science fiction categories.  The qualifications to be a judge are simple: You must be familiar with the M/M sub genre and should be able to devote a fair amount of time to evaluating the stories. I have no idea whether this would be a very short assignment, it depends on the number of submissions.

    I’d really love to help you out! I don’t know if you need any specific qualifications, but I have my own blog with reviews (in Polish), I co-operate with some publishers, also I’m a huge fan of M/M genre and finding time for reading’s never been a problem ;).

  • I don’t know what kind of requirements you need to be a judge, but I read a boatload of in the M/M genre. I would be interested in Contemporary category.
    Would the judges be required to actually write any types of reviews? (If so, I won’t qualify, since I can’t string 4 works together on paper)

      You won’t have to write reviews. 🙂 According to one of the judges last year, each person read the books individuallly, shared what worked for them in each book, and came up with a top 3. Then the group arrived at two finalists. I hope that helps.

      I’m looking at about 5K.

      Sorry I meant to indicate the date – the contest starts June 1 and would probably run for 2 weeks, after which time I would send out the entries to the judges who would probably need 2 weeks to read and rank the stories, depending on the number of entries.

  • I’m a rookie at this, but I’d be happy to try. I write in the contemporary sub-genre, so I guess any ‘expertise’ I have is in that area, but maybe I’d have fresher eyes for the other category, so either is fine.

  • Thanks very much guys. I think we have enough volunteers. Depending on the number of submissions we may not use all of you but thank you so much for volunteering.

    I’ll get back to you when the submissions come in and I have a sense of numbers.
