Who is your Favourite M/M Author?

Do you have a favourite M/M author? Someone whose books you can’t wait to drop and it always seems like forever for him or her to release a new story? When that brand spanking new book arrives on your e-reader or desktop or in print do you shut out the world or even take time off from work to immerse yourself in it? There aren’t many authors who would make me stop everything I’m doing to read their newest story, but I do have a few favourites whose books are like opening a box of dark chocolates and inhaling the smell and I know that many of you have your own. So Aunt Lynn and I thought we would give you an opportunity to pay homage to the writer of your choice by entering him or her in a contest for our first favourite M/M author.

You can only nominate one author for this contest, so think hard! A short-list will be put together based on the nominations and how many readers select the same author. We hope to come up with about 5 or 6 semi-finalists and you can help choose the winner. The contest will be open for 2 weeks.

This genre has some incredible creative and accomplished writers who don’t take a back seat to anyone and we hope you will nominate your favourite. Nominations close December 5.

We don’t have tons of cash laying around but we consider this contest important enough to donate, in addition to the title and a trophy, 🙂 a prize valued up to $200.  The winner will be able to choose from a host of dynamite new technology such as the Kindle Fire tablet, an e-reader, or something equally hot and have it delivered just in time for the holidays. (We were going to buy Christian a Christmas present with the money but we didn’t think he would mind if we diverted it to such a worthy cause. Thanks Christian!!!)

Please submit your nominations in the comments to this post and Lynn will tabulate the numbers to come up with the semi finalists (since I suck at this) 🙂 after which Christian will set up the poll so that you can vote.

UPDATE: This is a clarification due to a comment on the post. If you wish to nominate a writing partnership, that counts as one nomination. I have no idea how we will divide the prize if a partnership wins 😆 but that’s something we will have to figure out.

UPDATE 2: Another clarification (from Lynn).  Just because your favorite author has been mentioned (once or many times) does not mean you need to pick someone else.  If Josh Lanyon (or Ethan Day or James Buchanan or Amy Lane or your grandmother who writes m/m on the side…whoever) has been nominated, do so again.  This is YOUR favorite, not who hasn’t been mentioned yet.

UPDATE 3: Guys, you can mention your admiration for all of the M/M authors that you love but you may only nominate one (no back ups or seconds). 🙂 Lynn has to count the actual nominations to come up with 5 semi finalists or if there is a tie, 6. I know it’s hard to nominate just one author because everyone has many favourites, but this is the fairest way to determine the semi finalists. Thanks everyone.

  • Omg Wave this is hard. One? Only one? Can I at least do two? Or three? I can even come up with five :). No? I should read the conditions carefully? Okay, I will try to pick one amongst my favorites 🙂

      • All right so whom to pick? Please note that all the naming of the names I will be doing does not count as nomination till I actually say I nominate the author so please don’t kill me :). So do I pick Ann Sommerville whose writing resonates with me so much that amongst many books she wrote I do not have a single one that I hate and several especially epic fantasy Kei’s gift are amongst my top five favorite books in this genre? Or do I pick Steve Kluger because every time I read another clumsy attempt to write fluff I want to point the writer to his “Almost like being I’m love” and say here this is how you write a light hearted book with a heart, here is how you write light hearted book which can suddenly touch on serious issues with gentle elegant touch and leave the reader suddenly choked up amongst all the humor, here is how you write memorable characters which will stay withe forever and make me want to come back over and over. Maybe I should pick AM Riley who writes sophisticated enjoyable mysteries and blends it perfectly with the romance between flawed characters whom I may want to slap sometime but I also like and can relate to them. Or maybe I should pick Sarah Black who makes me actually want to read contemporaries because usually pure contemporaries are not my first sun genre of choice,but she populates her books with such amazing characters that I just keep coming back, hungry for more. Maybe I should pick Heidi Cullinan who always amazes
        me with how different her settings and characters are and how she always makes it work? Oh my goodness so many choices and I sure I forgot about some of my favorites.
        I will nominate Tamara Allen because when I a
        feeling down Whistling in the Dark and now The only gold are probablyt
        the books I reread the most. Her prose is beatif, she let me travel back to my beloved New York of the past and her guys are so so real to me and make me believe in the goodness of humanity. So yes after very careful deliberation my vote goes to Tamara Allen.

  • What if it is a team of writers? I love Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux together more so than apart. Actually, I like Ms. Urban teamed with anyone. So I guess it’s Madeleine Urban.

  • JL Merrow, hands down – witty, intelligent, sexy, always fresh. Who could ask for anything more? And it’s torture not to mention my #2, but she’s definitely #1 for me. 😀

  • I had to join in to nominate my favorite author: Victor Banis. The man is a craftsman, he has learned his trade and can’t write a bad line to save his life. I’d buy his laundry list if he cared to publish it, that’s how much I love his books.

  • A few of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I’ll go with someone that hasn’t been named yet.
    My pick: Amy Lane. 🙂

  • Really tough to single out one author. I have a top three of Josh Lanyon, Jordan Castillo Price and K.A. Mitchell, and I hate having to choose just one of them over the others.

    However, after much deliberation and consideration, I think I’ll have to vote for K.A. Mitchell – purely because I’m most drawn to contemporary erotic romances and she writes them so well!

  • Although there are many very talented writers in the genre, for me the books that I always anxiously wait for are Josh Lanyon’s.

  • I nominate Sarah Madison. Every book of hers I have read so far has been 5 stars. (BTW, she and Josh were fighting it out for my #1).

  • This is tough but since I’m pretty sure 4 out of 5 of my favourite authors is going to be nominated anyway, I’ll go with Josephine Myles. How can I not, since she’s written about barges (my dream vacation would be touring English canals for couple of weeks on a barge, although I wouldn’t be steering? it) and based a story on ugly socks. Her books make me always smile and there isn’t a higher recommendation than that for me:-).

  • Amy Lane, Marie Sexton, KA Mithcell, Chris Owen, Josh Lanyon… KA, Amy, JOsh, MArie, Chris… Hmmm…. Geez Marie, Chris, Josh, KA, Amy…. (I’m hoping the shuffle will assist in my decision making!) Hmm…. All of the authors are I’ve-bought-the-entire-backlist/ and re-read too many times to say, but if I a forced to pick just one, then the I pick… Marie Sexton. I love this contest and cannot wait to see who else is on the list. Maybe I’ll get a new favorite outta this!

  • Kate Cotoner: because her books helped me through a very difficult time in my life and made me want to live again. I hope she’s fine herself though. Her website seems to be down.

  • There are so many authors I love who have already been named. If I had to pick just one I’m voting for Tere Michaels. I recently reread Faith & Fidelity and Duty and Devotion. I love Ethan and Matt. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Everytime I reread I these two books I appreciate her writing and characterizations even more. I can’t wait for the 3rd book in the series.

  • Shoot, shoot, shoot. I have 6 to pick from…but I’m going to go with Abigail Roux because I actually did take a day off from work to read her book.

  • This is really hard, I have my favourites that I always buy, Josh Lanyon, Jordan Castillo Price and Madeleine Urband and Abigail Roux, but I also like new (to me) authors like Rachel Haimowitz and Andrea Speed. So how I decided was which book (or in this case series of books) would I want on a desert island, if I could choose only one, and it had to be Adrien English, so another vote for Josh Lanyon then!

  • What a choice… Some of my favorites are already there… Well, Josh Lanyon, of course, but someone picked him already. Abigail Roux, with or without Madeleine Urban, is always a good choice. Kaje Harper – her books go staight to my heart… Ginn Hale – such imagination, truest escapism…Since those are all gone already, I nominate Eden Winters cause her books are always honest and her characters stay with me for a long time.

  • I vote for Syd McGinley. I always jump up and down and go WOOHOO! whenever she puts out a new book which I buy as soon as humanly possible.

  • I nominate Ethan Day, his books are well written, so funny and full of characters that you wish you really knew.

  • I’m torn – I was going to second Harper Fox, but then realised that Charlie Cochrane hasn’t been nominated yet. so I’ll nominate Charlie.

  • Although she’s already been mentioned, I have to say Amy Lane. Before I started reading M/M, I devoured her Little Goddess books (which were self-pubbed), and her M/M books are just as engaging. Boy, I’ve never cried so hard as I did reading the first Little Goddess book.

  • It’s like Wave’s own version of Sophie’s Choice, le sigh. Instead of trying to narrow down my extensive list of “must read anything they write” authors I’m voting solely based on the number of times I’ve read a particular author’s books. My nominees are Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux.

  • My vote is for Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux. Anytime those 2 are on the cover together they are an automatic buy for me.

    TA Chase. I get all of her books in print and ebook…so…yeah…I nominate TA Chase.

    It was hard because I REALLY love Carol Lynne and Amber Kelly and Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan and Mary Calmes and ZA Maxfield and Ethan Day And Abigail Roux….man I could go on for DAYS. lol

  • I can’t pick one. I have to name my 3 great inspirations and mentors– Jet Mykles, Lynn Lorenz and ZA Maxfield. (There’s a bunch more but then it really gets complicated. )

  • AKM Miles!! I can go back and read her “Soldier” over and over. I’m one of the ones that was bugging her for Gom’s story, and boy did she deliver!

  • I have to go with KA Mitchell, but Damon Suede, Marie Sexton and ZA Maxfield are close seconds. But I’d go with Mitchell because I find her books the most consistently awesome.

    So many great authors (Josh Lanyon, Amy Lane, Harper Fox, Marie Sexton, JC Price, Kate Sherwood, ZAM, KA Mitchell, James Buchanan…) This year has been a revelation for me.

  • This was cruelty of the highest measure. I’ve been juggling thoughts of Adrien, Joey, Michail,Talker, Dan, Ricky and Jack, Frank and Col, with plenty of others as well ever since I read this post.

    It hurts to have to choose but the books are infrequently seen and consistently good so I’m going with K. A. Mitchell. Ouch!

  • I love L.B. Gregg’s books 😀 Carol Lynne and Stormy Glenn’s are like guilty pleasure… Madeliene Urban & Abigail Roux of course. Josh Lanyon for guaranteed quality read as well as Kaje Harper and Rowan McBride. Cassandra Gold for nice comfort read.

  • I love Marie Sexton, K A Mitchell and Josh Lanyon to distraction. So hard to choose between Angelo, Adrien and Joey…. but I think, out of sheer quantity (and proportion of quality to said quantity!) it has to be Josh Lanyon.

  • I choose Marie Sexton since I have read all her books and loved every one. Wow that was not easy there are so many great writers that I absolutely love.

  • There are many good ones and a few very good, but my favorite has to be Josh Lanyon. He is in a league by himself 🙂

  • It’s really really difficult for me. I want to say Josh Lanyon, because he’s the author who gives me a little thrill when I see a new book announcement, but then I have to think about the latest novels I’ve read that still stay with me, like the Salsbury Key by Harper Fox and everything she’s written, or Tamara Allen or Roux and Urban or Kaje Harper or Wren Boudreau or Elle Parker, or Bonnie Dee and Summer Devon’s gorgeous historicals… I hate this contest! LOL

    Just one? Seriously?! Really, it’s impossible to pick one because all those I noted above have given me so many hours of pure reading enjoyment. So I have to bow out.

      I know how hard it is for anyone to choose just one — but think of this as choosing someone to marry. 😀 Unless you are a polygamist you can only have one mate at a time (I think).

      The reason for limiting the nomiations to one author is because that’s the only way we can come up with the finalists so that all readers can vote on those authors who received the most nominations. I hope you change your mind. 🙁

    Amy Lane, Abigail Roux, Madeleine Urban, Marie Sexton, James Buchanan, KA Mitchell, ZA Maxfield…and that’s just off the top of my head! :hearts02: :wallbash: :hearts02:

    But much as I love them all (and Amy Lane and Abigail Roux have each written two of my all-time favorite books, and Abigail co-authored one of my all-time favorite series), there’s only one author I can think of who has gotten me hard-core-5-stars-all-the-way with every book I’ve read. Granted, she’s also written fewer, so perhaps it’s not a fair gauge, but I have to use something, so I’ll nominate Kaje Harper.

  • I debated all week about this! (It’s a good thing that there are too many good authors to choose from, right?) I’ll nominate Sarah Black.

  • God, I love all of them!!! Hard to choose, but if you put a gun to my head, I guess I’d have to say Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban. I absolutely adore Ty and Zane, and even if there are many other characters who have stolen my heart, those two will always be the first!

  • As everyone has mentioned there are so many wonderful authors I could list. I love Jordan Castillo Price,KA Mitchell, Kate Sherwood,ZA Maxfield, Kaje Harper, Harper Fox,and JL Langley. I absolutely have to have everything they have ever written. But I have to say my most favorite, that I would stay up all night for, that his writing blows me away is Josh Lanyon. He’s my favorite in any genre.

  • I love so many. This is such a difficult decision. Chris Owen, Eden Winters, Harper Fox, James Buchanan, Jordan Castillo Price, Kaje Harper, Kate Sherwood, Marie Sexton. The list goes on and on. I wish I could sing my praises to them all. I would have to say that my all time favorite authors are Josh Lanyon, Z.A.Maxfield, K.A.Mitchell and J.L. Langley for consistantly producing books that I will read over and over and will never tire of. Thank you so much to all of you.

  • This was a difficult choice, but in the end I would have to say my most favorite would have to be the partnership of Abigail Roux & Madeleine Urban. I simply adore Ty and Zane 🙂

    I love every one of her books without exception.

    Even though there are several other authors I could have picked (Kate Sherwood, Chris Owen, Harper Fox, Z.A. Maxfield, Sean Kennedy… most of which have already been mentioned), hands down for me it has to be K.A. Mitchell.

  • I wasn’t going to nominate anyone but I thought after all the complaints, how hard could it be? Well I found out, 😮 so here goes.

    I looked over my list of favourite authors and it seemed endless, starting with Josh Lanyon and ending with Jordan Castillo Price. In between those two names were K.A. Mitchell, L.A.
