Summary Review: A funny romp featuring Bones and Sebastien from “Grave Watchers”

The Blurb: Sebastien and Bones are back for a little vacation/crocodile hunt in Argentina at the request of fellow Grave Watcher, Alejandro. What should have been an easy afternoon turns into a night time chase for the legendary chupacabra. All Sebastien really wanted was a quiet afternoon in his hotel room and some ice cream, but when the gods ask you for something, it’s best to comply.

The Review:

First of all, this isn’t a standalone. Due to the shortness of this piece, there’s no room for more than the most basic background info about the characters, and it doesn’t even do much to forward Bones’s and Sebastiens established relationship. However, fans of Missouri Dalton’s  The Grave Watchers might enjoy revisiting this universe and its quirky, extraordinary characters.

Bones and Sebastien follow an invitation from fellow Grave Watcher Alejandro to go crocodile hunting in Buenos Aires. However, it turns out that there’s more to that particular crocodile than meets the eye, and soon they find themselves hunting the legendary Chupachabra instead. Much to Sebastien’s displeasure; perpetually hungry (for both food and other carnal pleasures) Sebastien had envisioned a lazy afternoon involving ice cream and Bones aka Khentimentiu, his cat shifter lover. Instead he finds himself sitting in some godforsaken barn in the middle of the night, bored to the core as they’re watching a dead cow and waiting for a rabbit-size creature to come forth and take the bait.

Not long afterwards though Sebastien learns that even small creatures can make formidable monsters, forcing them to beat a hasty retreat. His one solace is the thought of what awaits him once they’ll be back in their hotel room, as they still have ice cream…but they hadn’t reckoned with an ancient Egyptian God’s ambition.

This episode was actually nothing more that that, a little fun with Sebastien and Bones and the strange creatures they encounter in their everyday life.
Written in this author’s distinctive, humorous style this short had everything I enjoyed about her other works: sparkling banter, scary creatures and their wacky, whimsical logic that makes this universe so special. No sex, I might add, and not even much about Bones’s and Sebastien’s relationship, let alone anything  remotely romantic.
This is a humorous, action-filled interlude, entertaining and witty, that I’d recommend for fans of this author, particularly for those who enjoyed The Grave Watchers as much as I did.
