This is officially the last author profile on the site. I wanted to close off this series with an author whose stories were very different from those of the other M//M writers who have graced these pages before, and the writing partnership of H.L. Holston and Eleanor Bruce fit the bill because I’ve been chuckling ever since I read The Moon’s Dirty Light. They figured out what works for their fans and they continue to delight them, but who knew these authors were such avid fans of The Boss?
Here, in their own words, are the biggest stalkers fans of The Boss aka Bruce Springsteen – H.L. Holston and Eleanor Bruce.
This is definitely a different kind of author profile. 🙂
**************
When Wave asked us to do a post, we had no idea what we should write about. Funny that, since Eleanor works as a technical writer and I teach writing/reading for a living. However, in the end we decided to talk about what brought us together as a writing team.
About ten years ago, we were first introduced by a mutual friend in slash fandom and while both of us have
always loved the hot man on man action, it was our mutual love of Bruce Springsteen that really solidified our friendship.
Or to be more specific Bruce Springsteen’s ass. That picture is circa 1975 on the Born to Run tour.
We’ll try not to objectify the man…much. But really, he’s perfect. And that ass you could bounce a quarter off of and the man is sixty-four years old. SIXTY-FOUR! Now, I know he works out three times a week in a gym in New Jersey – I have spies…um…friends in Jersey who work out at the same gym as The Boss. So the man works hard for that butt. We could wax lyrically about his music, how many times we’ve seen him in concert, how we’ve driven — and flown — across state lines to see him over the years, but we’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
But now you ask, gentle reader, how does a love of Springsteen evolve into writing M/M shifter romance
books? Cue up a girl’s long weekend in New Orleans with too many haunted vampire tours, a lot of Hurricanes — and Hand Grenades and Margaritas — plus a love of anything paranormal and we came up with the idea for our first shifter book, The Moon’s Dirty Light, which Wave reviewed here. The title comes from lyrics in a Bruce song named “Blood Brothers.” And while we didn’t make the main characters fans of The Boss, we did make a minor character one.
We wanted to include as many paranormal tropes in the book as possible. I think we hit most of them: bonding, cops in love, geeks, knotting, possessive werewolves and potential mpreg. Stir in some real snarkiness –which Eleanor and I come by naturally — and you got Dylan Reed, human cop who finds out his work partner is a werewolf and during sex passed on the genetic trait to him. I called it shifter STD! From then on out, our series, the Werewolves of Baltimore was born. Hopefully, we’ll be adding more and more tropes to the books. Book number two,
Beneath the 13th Moon was just released by eXtasy.
Yes, yes, that title comes from a Springsteen song too. 😀 There is a Bruce Springsteen lyric for every occasion!
Before we go, here’s another picture of The Boss to…inspire you. This is a more recent picture of his incredible features.
Many thanks to Wave for having us and reviewing M/M books the last couple of years. We will miss the site. Happy Holidays and here’s a little Boss cheer to get you in the mood – plus, he’s speaking Spanish! Muy caliente.
Eleanor has been a professional business writer since 1989 and an amateur fiction writer for over fifteen years. She never considered writing fiction professionally until her friend, H.L. Holston, asked for her help with a short story. From there, Eleanor has gone on to write two books and another short story with Holly. She hopes that someday she can quit her job and write full-time. Until then, she juggles her responsibilities with varying levels of success.
H.L. Holston (Holly) is a teacher by day and a sometimes author by night. She dreams up ideas with her writing partners Sue (they write as Sue Holston) and Eleanor Bruce, but occasionally she ventures out on her own. She admits she is a horrible blogger, even worse at keeping up on Facebook and wishes she could retire to New Orleans and eat beignets every day at Café du Monde. Until then, she will write books about sexy men loving each other.

Yeah for the boss! Muy caliente but hes speaking french! Alors trop bien! 🙂
