Originally I read this book, I was attracted by the cover and said “Why Not?” I found out that although I really tried to love the story it just felt like it was missing something. So when I saw it on Audio again I thought “Maybe this is what it needed.” I gave the book a second try, and while it was a bit better, thanks to Paul Morey – it still just felt incomplete and rushed to me. However, all is not a complete loss with Caged Sanctuary this story deals with some very emotional and touching subjects and the author deals with these subjects very well and with respect to people who may have been subject to the same situations. Kaden is a very strong willed man, he has been literally beaten down and left for dead and managed to rebuild his life in every way except for one. You see while Kaden is a very strong man, he desires to submit and due to his restrictions he has not been able to find a Dom who is willing to take him on, therefore he is incomplete. Deacon James, he is introduced to us at a dinner party hosted by Kaden’s best friend and he is immediately drawn to Kaden. In-fact it is so immediate that it feel rushed and unrealistic. However, maybe Dom’s do thing different so I overlooked that and kept going. From the meeting of Kaden and Deacon the book just takes off, other characters are introduced, Deacon is planning his life around Kaden and making permanent changes – and they have known each other a week, maybe two. So yeah, one of my huge issues with this book is it just went way to fast. I get the “insta-love” thing but I personally feel this book would have been better if it was slowed down, filled in, and even had a sequel if need be.
Now lets move on to the audio part of the review – Paul Morey, I have listened to many of his books. He is great at bringing characters to life and he really did do a good job in this situation as well. His cadence and inflection as always were spot on and he kept me entertained and engaged in the storyline. No complaints about the narrator only positives.
After this I can honestly say I have given this book ample opportunities to impress me and both times it has left me feeling cheated.
