Eater of Lives is not meant to be read as a standalone. I recommend starting at Book #1: Hunter of Demons.

This is a series I enjoy re-reading. I love the setting in Charleston (beautiful city!), I find the concept of the SPECTR agency interesting, there is just the right amount of externally caused tension (SPECTR) to balance out the budding romance between John, Caleb and Grey.

In this installment John, Sean and Tiffany discover there is an incredibly powerful NHE (non-human entity) killing people in the city. As the team hunts it down, they are accompanied by Forsyth under the pretense of observation.

What everybody knows though, is Caleb only has two weeks left before Grey residence in Caleb’s body becomes permanent. And, everybody knows that once a drakul takes possession, all hell will break loose.

But there is a wee bit of a problem…John loves Gray and that goes against everything he stands for, compounded by John hasn’t told Caleb he doesn’t want to kill Gray. It’s a complex web of emotions all three have to navigate and it only becomes more complex when John’s ex comes a knocking. Gray has an unexpected jealous side.

This installment is fast paced with the tension of SPECTR balanced by the emotional turmoil between Calab and Gray. I enjoyed the “demon” myth in this one.
