Embry Ford was a quiet, ordinary guy—until tragedy ripped his life apart. Now he’s living under the radar, desperate to hide his identity and determined to learn the truth behind what happened. Even if that means working for—and bedding—a man he loathes.
As a bodyguard to a shadowy arms dealer, Brogan Smith knows distractions can kill as easily as a bullet. But when he sets his eyes on his client’s sexy assistant, he can’t get him out of his mind. Even more unnerving: the closer he gets to Embry, the more Brogan starts to suspect he might be protecting the wrong man.
Embry was sure nothing but vengeance would satisfy him—until Brogan offers him something far more tempting. Now Embry must choose: punish the people who nearly destroyed him or fight for a future with the man who has become his entire world.
Warning: This book does contain one scene of non-consent, but there is fortunately no penetration. In addition, there are scenes that involve physical, emotional and verbal abuse.
Okay, now for my pet peeves…. I really don’t like it when a character in a book is in any way apart of the cheating aspect of things. Whether it is the cheating spouse/partner or the lover, I just don’t like it. However, with that said, I do not rate a book on something I do not like personally. I do not feel that fair to the author.
Now with that out-of-the-way, this story was brilliant! It is told from both Brogans’ and Embrys’ POV. It is split up into three parts including an epilogue; alternating between the two. Let me just say, this book is loaded with goodness. There is: action, angst like you would not believe, crazy people, geeky moments, witty banter, crime, death, sarcasm and hot sex. I really don’t want to get into the crime/suspense aspect, since that would spoil it for most.
Sidney Bell, seriously, you need to “quit playing games with my heart.”
Between the angst and the sexual chemistry, you will find yourself having to walk away from your kindle and wanting to praise it as well. I found myself really liking Brogan. He is a good guy, and I am glad he gets his HEA; so deserved. On the other hand, it took me a while to really like Embry, even when I understood where he was coming from. I really went back and forth saying, “Aww” then “You’re such a douche” when I thought of him.
For Sidney Bells’ debut book, it is one hell of a start! If all her other books are written this well, then she just found herself a new fan.
