One moment Riley Murrough is living a normal life working in a coffee shop, and the next he’s running for his life from demons, learns he bears the mark of a shape-shifter king from a magical realm, and—worst of all—he’s destined to become the mated prince to the arrogant tiger shifter he would rather strangle.
Khalon, the shifter king, is equally distraught at the idea of being bound to a human prince, and along with his Soldati warriors, he sets out to return Riley to his own world where he belongs. On their journey they might discover why the priestess brought them together—if they can escape the demons and make it to her alive.
First Edition published as The Soldati Prince in Charmed & Dangerous by JCP Books LLC, 2015.
This is my first book by Charlie Crochet and I really didn’t know what to expect, but I do know a lot of people enjoy reading her books. Let me say I was not disappointed. I really liked the world that the author created and it kept me entertained until the end.
I absolutely loved Riley’s snarkiness and Khalon’s assery. Even though they are mates and attracted to one another, it is not welcomed by Khalon at all. He cannot get pass Riley being a fragile human with an end date. As time passes both MC’s get to know each other better. So, when something happens to them, Riley says something that ends up being a game changer. Unfortunately, Khalon realizes far too late just how wrong he was.
There were only a few things the author left unanswered that I am unsure of. One being is the time in the Soldati’s dimension. Is it the same in the human world? If so, I am wondering what happened when Riley’s boss came upon his business the next day? Since the demons ended up destroying the place. Speaking of this, when Riley flees into the alley, and the Soldati end up disposing of the demons, all I could think of is Expecto Patronum. Just saying.
In addition, does anyone realize Riley is missing since he has been in the Soldati dimension for over two weeks? Have they reported him missing or is he a possible suspect in the destruction of the property? Or has time really passed in the human world at all? I am going to assume that these questions I have will be answered in the near future.
Overall, Charlie Crochet did a good job with the start to this series, and I cannot wait to see what comes next. At the end of this book we are left still wondering what Riley’s purpose will be since his transformation is not complete. In addition, how is Khalon now affected making the deal he did with the priestess. On a lesser note, will Rayner be able have a future with Tonka? Time will only tell, and I for one cannot wait!
