Happy Birthday Canada

Today is Canada Day and Canadians from coast to coast are celebrating the birth of the land of the maple leaf 143 years ago. We even have Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visiting this week to celebrate with the common folk and taking in a visit to the race track. 🙂

Canada is a wonderful country with a diverse population and rich history of immigrants who helped to build this great country of ours. Toronto, its largest city, has perhaps the most diverse population in the world. Despite the recent problems during the G8 and G20 Summits we are mostly law abiding, and citizens aren’t allowed to bear arms (only the criminals and cops do) 🙂

Canada is one of the most tolerant countries and welcomes you whether you are gay or straight, Christian, Muslim, Jewish or any other religion, non believer, or ethnicity. So on its 143rd birthday I would like to congratulate Canada and say how proud I am to be Canadian.

Instead of raising a glass of champagne I’ll toast Canada’s birthday in typical Canadian fashion – with Canadian beer. 🙂

  • I took a course in college all about Canada from it’s beginnings on through the present. It’s a fascinating country. Happy birthday, Canada!

  • Happy Canada Day. The Queen is still here in town until after lunch but I don’t plan on tackling the crowds to see her. My daughter is helping out at a horse show this morning and early afternoon then is meeting some friends down town so I think I’ll just spend my day doing some chores and relaxing at home.

  • Happy Canada Day. We live in a border town and visit Toronto a number of times a year. What a great country and city. We often think of moving there. I also only listen to a Toronto radio station and at times will even develop a Canadian accent. 🙂 I also know the words to the Canadian National Anthem and sing that one more than the US one.

    When I lived in Toronto, it became very clear very quickly that most Canadians knew far more about both the U.S. and Canada than most Americans knew about either; it was embarrassing.

    As for the accent, I picked it up quickly and it has been persistent – even after many years, people *still* ask me if I’m Canadian after hearing me speak. 🙂 Happy Canada Day!

  • Happy Canada Day! I’ve only ever been to the west part of Canada (Victoria and Vancouver), but I was so impressed by the beauty of the countryside and coast! I’ve had family tour the Northwest Territories and they still tell stories about what an amazing place it is. 🙂

    Yeah, about that accent… it wasn’t until I’d lived in the States for a few years and was talking to my Mom on the phone. She said “aboot” and I thought, OMG, we do have an accent! ;P
