REVIEW
Dante is a bright, brash and horny bartender who first captured my attention as a secondary character in the previous books in The Body Shop series, BOYS’ NIGHT OUT and PAINTED WINGS—both great reads. In this book Dante is still panting after his boss, Kale, a buffed and dominant strip club owner. While Kale doesn’t hide his possessiveness over Dante, he keeps his bartender at arms length, driving Dante to distraction. When a buffed, sexy and mysterious patron hits on Dante, he decides a little after-hours action with Buffed & Sexy is just what he needs to take the edge off his lust. And why shouldn’t he? He’s young, hot and sporting a new sexy tail implant he’s raring to try out on a new lover.
When he tries to leave with his mystery man Kale intervenes, demanding to know what Rolan is doing in his club, much less with his bartender. Discovering that Kale and Rolan are old acquaintances fuels Dante’s jealousy and his determination to have the man as a hook up. Kale relents, giving Dante an ominous warning that he’s biting off more trouble than he can handle with Rolan.
Dante goes home with the super-smooth Rolan, despite some niggling about his safety. Just as things get hot and heavy some secrets are revealed and things turn scary and …well, I hate to give it all away. Let’s just say when Kale stakes his full claim on Dante we learn Rolan isn’t the only one hiding his nature or his intent.
My low rating has mostly to do with the premise of this story–how Kale goes about announcing his interest and claim on Dante made NO SENSE to me. I’m all on board for the whole fantasy angle, but Kale’s set up defied basic logic, IMhumbleO. Saving Dante from a situation Kale sent him into, knowing all along what Rolan had in mind, just didn’t work for me.
Even so, having enjoyed the other books in the Body Shop series and having a weakness for Dante’s impish personality, I’ll be picking up the next book TAIL-TELL SIGNS OF TROUBLE and look forward to more of Kale and Dante.
I seem to be addicted to this series. Although I would love to see all the stories put together somehow and smoothed into a coherent mass (not mess). I always feel like I’m missing just a little bit here and there that would pull them all together. However I keep buying them every time I find a new one.
LOL, Tam. Same here. I bumped into the first couple books out of sequence, not knowing they were part of a series. The author has a list on her website, but it must be old since it doesn’t include either Dante and Kale books.
