Fun Writing Competition 2011 – The Rules

We have rules. 🙂 There’s very little difference from last year except for the word count and dates:

THE RULES

1. Anyone can enter as long as you’re not a published author by June 1, 2011 when the contest officially starts
2. Stories must be a minimum of 3,500 words and a maximum of 5,500 words and must be M/M. If you are either under or over you’re disqualified – no exemptions because you can’t count. Submissions can be in any word processing program that counts the number of words e.g. Microsoft Word, and must be double spaced in a 12 point font size
3. Your story must be funny or it will be disqualified.
4. Your story must contain one sex scene and have some real dialogue other than grunts and groans or you will be disqualified. 🙂

5. One story per person please. Don’t try to cheat by using different email addresses.
6. No bribing the judges by offering to sleep with them. Each judge has only one vote so that won’t do you any good – you would have to sleep with all of them to guarantee being in the finals. 🙂
7. If you’re a judge you can’t submit a story in the same category you’re judging – that’s called cheating.
8. Entries must be received by midnight June 15, 2011 to qualify.
9. The judges have 3 weeks to read and rate the stories on a scale of 1 to 10. They are not allowed to rate any story as zero because that’s not nice.
10. You must show clearly on your submission whether the story is contemporary or paranormal/historical/science fiction so that I’ll know which judges will have the honour of reading your works of art.
11. There will be a winner in each category and the 2 finalists will go head to head on the site and YOU, dear readers, get to pick the winning entry.
12. The prize – I haven’t figured that out yet but there will be a prize. Maybe I’ll get a sponsor or 2 to pony up.
13. The winning entry will be published on the website for everyone to read so your fame (or infamy) will go far and wide.

Christian is setting up a special email under Navigation where you can send your entries (more on this later).

If you’re thinking of entering the competition you should start writing your story now since June 1 is just around the corner.

Please leave any questions or comments on the post and I will do my best to clarify anything that’s not clear.

Good luck to all the contestants. 🙂

I’ll be doing a wrap up on last year’s winner around the end of May.

  • What is meant by “stories must be funny”? By what metric are you evaluating “funny”? I’m asking because that seems really subjective and liable to vary person to person. Is dark humor ok or are you looking for pratfalls and the like?

    • Hi Zola
Since this is supposed to be a “Fun” Writing Competition I thought it made sense that all the entries should have some element of fun in them. There is no requirement for pratfalls, and dark humour is of course welcome. While I agree with you that “funny” is subjective, last year I don’t think any of the contestants had problems meeting this requirement.

  • I do nope nothing like American Pie. I hate that kind of humour. :my2cents:

    Good luck everyone :computer:

  • Has it really been a year already? My, how time flies! We’ll see whether life will allow for writing something for this, this year. Either way, good luck to the contestants!

  • This is gonna be fun. Are any of the reviewers going to participate? There are several whose reviews are so clever, I’d love to see a story from them.

  • I’m waiting on final edits from my beta- reader, and am frantically looking for the email addy for submissions. Have I missed it, somehow?

    • Hi Reba
You have a beta reader? lol.

You haven’t missed the link because it won’t be up until 12.01 A.M. on June 1. I will make an announcement on May 31.

      • YYeses. Lol! I have a beta because I know my limits. I suck at edits. 🙂

        Glad I didn’t miss it. I’ll look for it June 01. 😎
